Education Strategies for Home

The 2022-2023 school year will embark on the new Florida Assessment for Student Thinking, or F.A.S.T . This replacement  will be given over three progress monitoring  sessions throughout the school year to better aid in student academic growth in reading and math areas.  Please refer to the MDCPS testing calendar to stay informed and prepared for your child's assessments throughout the school year.

Students and parents should note the curriculum is more rigorous and requires much more critical thinking skills. Please encourage your child by involving them in home projects requiring processes and procedures. Make sure to ask them questions, especially the questions of WHY? and HOW? Increase reading of various print materials at home to broaden their knowledge base.  Limit computer game time and have them practice typing skills. Many of the assessments are computer based and learning this skill eliminates draining clock time of poor typing skills. There are free typing tutorials on the internet and your child's student portal .

If the family does not have access to a home computer, local libraries provide free computer access to patrons.

Remember, encourage your child to get plenty of rest, balance their time appropriately, take advantage of tutorial assistance provided at schools and review their class notes on a daily basis.

Be a partner in education. Keep the learning going at home.
